Instructions
Exposed Elastic
Remember the rubberband stretches slightly when y'all start wearing it regularly.
For exposed elastic, you are going to cut a strip of elastic to the size of your waist. To do this, wrap the rubberband around where you would like the pants to sit and pull it and so it is snug. Yous want information technology to be tight but not constricting. Cut the elastic strip.
I am going to cut only below the seam considering I don't desire the fabric to get to thick.
Cut the old elastic out of your pants. Y'all can cutting just below where the old seam is or if you are worried about fraying, yous can cut just higher up it.
Pin the new elastic to the sweatpants with about a one-half inch of cloth overlapping. I am putting my elastic on the outside of the pants, but if you want you can fold downward the edge of your pants slightly and put the rubberband on the inside. You lot want to make sure the rubberband is stretched out, so pin at the beginning, end and then at the one-half way point on the pants.
Brand sure when you are sewing you lot are just stretching the elastic out and non the pants.
Start sewing the elastic with a zig-zag, overcasting, or joining stitch. Wherever you start, when yous get back to that place, stitch a couple of stitches overlapping considering yous won't be able to backstitch at the start. Too, sew the ends of the elastic together.
Subconscious Elastic
For hidden elastic waistbands, you are going to cut a strip of rubberband to the size of your waist the same manner every bit before.
Find where the former elastic is sewn into the pants and cut a pigsty large enough to have out the old elastic and insert the new. You may demand a seam ripper to disassemble the elastic from the pants. Be careful to not rip through the pants while removing the elastic.
Attach a safety pin to 1 end of the new elastic. Insert it into the hole and showtime pushing the elastic through. Make certain the other end of the elastic stays outside of the pants for now. When you become the prophylactic pin through to the other side, adhere the ii ends together with a pin.
Using a needle and thread, sew together the two ends together, make this every bit apartment equally possible or else you will be able to experience the seam. You can also apply a zig zag stitch to sew the ends together. Then put the rubberband inside the pigsty and run up it shut. And now your sweatpants are adept as new.
